[ PATTERN STORY ]
Buyei teatray 茶盆
I copied this pattern from a fabric I found at an antique store during a trip to Hong Kong in 2016 and began replicating it on my tea trays in 2019.
This kind of fabric is hand woven by the Buyei tribe, a native ethnic minority inhabitant of the southwest province of Guizhou, China. Buyi people harvest indigo plants used for their natural dyes, cultivate cotton to spun it into yarn, then woven into fabrics on a body-tensioned frame loom.
This tray will be presented for «Autour du thé» exhibition at Le sentiment des choses gallery in Le Marais, Paris. Open from 19th April to 4 May 2024.
